Historical Significance

Over five months from November 1989 to April 1990, approximately 13,500 people across Belgium reported large triangular craft with three white lights and a central red light performing low-altitude, near-silent flight. Belgian Air Force F-16s scrambled to intercept on at least one occasion, achieved radar lock, and then experienced weapons systems anomalies. Belgian Air Force Major General Wilfried De Brouwer confirmed the events publicly and stated the craft did not match any known aircraft. This is the most thoroughly documented mass sighting in UAP history.

Consensus Narrative

The Belgian Air Force conducted its own investigation and published results — a rare instance of military transparency. Their conclusion: the objects were real, they were tracked on multiple radar systems, and no conventional explanation was found. Debunkers later proposed the objects were experimental US stealth aircraft — the F-117 — but this was denied by US authorities and is inconsistent with the observed flight characteristics.

Documentary Record

Maj. Gen. De Brouwer’s press conference in 1990 is unprecedented — a serving Air Force general confirming UAP reality with radar data. The F-16 gun camera footage showed radar lock-on followed by the object accelerating from 280km/h to over 1,700km/h in seconds and descending 900 metres in one second — performance impossible for any known aircraft. As with Tehran 1976 and Malmstrom 1967, weapons/sensors malfunctioned during engagement.

⚡ Clues Often Missed

The Belgian Air Force publicly released radar tracking data showing the object performing a 7,000-foot descent in one second and accelerating to hypersonic speed in seconds — officially documented data, not witness testimony alone.
NATO radar installations tracked the same craft independently from Belgian Air Force radar — a multi-sensor confirmation removing all possibility of single-source instrument error.
The repeated sensor/weapons failures during intercept attempts — here, Tehran 1976, Malmstrom 1967 — suggest an active countermeasure, not an accident.
Over 13,500 reported witnesses across a five-month period represents a systematic, prolonged phenomenon — not a single anomalous event. This was a sustained operation or presence.

🔍 Open Threads

Major General De Brouwer later served in senior NATO positions. Has he made any classified briefings about the wave to NATO allies? What do NATO records show?
The timing (November 1989) coincides with the fall of the Berlin Wall — was the wave in any way connected to the destabilisation of the Eastern Bloc and shifted military attention?
The craft was reportedly photographed by civilians and the images were studied — some were found to be fabricated, but multiple authentic photographs exist. Has full photographic analysis been conducted?
