Significance
Lieutenant George Gorman of the North Dakota Air National Guard engaged a small, brilliantly lit object in his F-51 Mustang for 27 minutes over Fargo, North Dakota. The object outmanoeuvred him completely despite maximum airspeed. Air traffic controllers at Fargo tower visually tracked the light as did two Piper Cub pilots. Project Sign investigators examined the F-51 and found no engine anomalies but did find increased radioactivity on the aircraft. One of Blue Book’s most significant pilot cases.
