Historical Significance
Over three nights in December 1980, US Air Force personnel stationed at RAF Woodbridge encountered structured craft with multicoloured lights in Rendlesham Forest. Deputy base commander Lt. Col. Charles Halt personally witnessed the object on the third night and documented it in a memo to the UK Ministry of Defence. Physical landing traces, broken branches, and elevated radiation readings were recorded at the site. Called ‘Britain’s Roswell,’ it remains the most significant UAP encounter in UK history.

Official position: The UK Ministry of Defence stated the events posed no threat to national security and were never investigated as a security matter. Sceptical explanations include misidentification of the Orfordness Lighthouse, a fireball, and atmospheric phenomena.
Documentary Record
The Halt Memo — sent to UK MoD on January 13, 1981 — is one of the few official military documents confirming a UAP encounter in a senior officer’s own words. Halt recorded the object directing beams of light toward the ground. Radiation readings at the landing site were measured at 25–35 millirads per hour — roughly 15 times background. Halt’s audio recording made in real-time still exists. Airman John Burroughs has filed a successful VA claim for radiation injuries — the US government implicitly acknowledged he was harmed during the incident.

▶John Burroughs, the first USAF airman to approach the craft, was denied his own medical records for years. His 2015 VA settlement for radiation injuries is a de facto government acknowledgement that something physically real occurred.
▶The Halt Memo was not declassified until 1983 — and only through a FOIA request by researcher Robert Todd. It was never voluntarily disclosed.
▶Witness Sgt. Jim Penniston claims to have touched the craft and transcribed binary code from its surface — code which, when deciphered decades later, appeared to give geographic coordinates and a date of 8100 AD.
▶The weapons storage area at RAF Bentwaters was reported to contain nuclear weapons — and the object reportedly directed light beams toward it on the third night, mirroring the UAP-nuclear connection at Malmstrom.
