LUIS ELIZONDO

ROLE
AATIP Director
AGENCY
Pentagon / OUSD-I
PERIOD
2010 – 2017
STATUS
ACTIVE

Background

Career counterintelligence officer. Served in Afghanistan, Cuba, and at Guantánamo Bay. Recruited into the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence to run the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), the successor to AAWSAP.

The Resignation

In October 2017 Elizondo resigned from the Pentagon in protest of what he described as «excessive secrecy» and the refusal of senior leadership to take UAP seriously as a threat. His resignation letter went directly to Secretary of Defense James Mattis.

Two months later, on December 16 2017, the New York Times broke the existence of AATIP — with Elizondo on the record — alongside the FLIR1, GIMBAL, and GOFAST videos. The piece detonated the post-Roswell consensus and triggered everything that followed: the 2021 ODNI Preliminary Assessment, the UAPTF, AARO, and the Schumer-Rounds disclosure amendments.

Why He Matters

Without Elizondo, the modern UAP disclosure era does not exist. He took a black programme public from the inside, used institutional channels to do it, and did not break any laws while doing so. The Pentagon has spent eight years in a low-grade attempt to discredit him — including the 2024 AARO Historical Report claim that AATIP «had no UAP focus» — without producing the evidence to back the claim.

Key Disclosures

  • Confirmed AATIP studied UAP, contradicting Pentagon denials
  • Released the FLIR1 / GIMBAL / GOFAST Navy videos
  • Confirmed crash material in US government possession
  • Stated UAP demonstrate the «Five Observables»: anti-gravity, sudden acceleration, hypersonic velocity, low observability, trans-medium travel
  • Authored Imminent (2024), the most detailed insider account ever published

The Greer Allegation

Stephen Greer has publicly labelled Elizondo a «disinformation asset.» UFO Oracle’s editorial position: the accusation is unsupported by evidence and undermines disclosure unity. Elizondo’s testimony has been corroborated by Grusch, Coulthart, and multiple anonymous DoD sources. The Greer attack pattern fits the historical disinformation model of credibility-fracture between disclosure advocates — a pattern Richard Doty perfected against Paul Bennewitz.
