Luis Elizondo is a former career intelligence officer with the US Army and Defense Intelligence Agency, specialising in counterintelligence and human intelligence operations. He served in multiple classified programmes and conflict zones before being assigned to run AATIP — the Pentagon’s secret UAP investigation programme — from approximately 2010 until his resignation in October 2017.

Elizondo resigned from his Pentagon position on October 4, 2017, submitting a letter directly to Secretary of Defense James Mattis. He named the organisations involved as operating outside normal congressional oversight through special access programmes housed in private aerospace contractors.
