The NARA UAP Records Collection FAQ states the collection will consist of records relating to “unidentified anomalous phenomena, technologies of unknown origin, and non-human intelligence.” Non-human intelligence is now a formal legal category in US federal records law. This is not a UFO enthusiast’s framing. It is the exact language of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, codified at 44 U.S.C. 2107.

BAE Systems — the UK’s largest defence contractor — is a primary participant in Project Dragonfire, the UK MOD’s high-energy laser weapon that completed its first aerial target engagements in January 2024. BAE also developed HYPERION (HPM weapon) and ADAPTIV (thermal camouflage eliminating infrared signature). Together with Leonardo, MBDA, QinetiQ, and Thales, BAE represents the Five Eyes’ European DEW industrial capability.

The 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, sections 1841–1843, requires NARA to establish a UAP Records Collection and every federal agency to identify and transfer records relating to “unidentified anomalous phenomena, technologies of unknown origin, and non-human intelligence.” That phrase — non-human intelligence — is now a formal legal category in US federal records law. NARA has established Record Group 615. The transfer deadline was October 2024.

The Australian DST definition of HPRF DEW — “coupling electromagnetic energy into circuitry at sufficient levels to cause operational disruption or damage” — is the precise mechanism that explains documented UAP effects on aircraft electronics, vehicle ignition systems, military radar, and human neurological tissue. HPRF coupling is not a theory applied to UAP. It is the only known mechanism that fits every documented category of UAP physical effect.

Air University — the USAF’s senior professional military education institution at Maxwell AFB — maintains a dedicated Directed Energy Weapons research guide for students and faculty. The guide covers AFIT’s Center for Directed Energy, AFRL’s DE programmes, DARPA, and major defence contractors. DEW is considered essential curriculum for future Air Force senior officers.

DSC 2084 is a single-page Australian Defence Science and Technology Group fact sheet published August 2018 on high-power radio-frequency directed energy weapons. The PURSUE Release 01 announcement on May 8, 2026 included coordinated statements from the Secretary of War, the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI Director, and the NASA Administrator. These are four of the most senior figures in the US national security apparatus speaking simultaneously about UAP. The specific language each one chose is worth examining carefully.

PURSUE — the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters — launched May 8, 2026 at war.gov/ufo. Release 01 contains 161 files from the White House, ODNI, DOE, AARO, NASA, FBI, and additional intelligence agencies. The directive uses the words “alien and extraterrestrial life.” All materials are unresolved cases: the government cannot determine what these objects are.

The war.gov/UFO slideshow contains 17 images from the PURSUE Release 01 package: FBI infrared photos from western US in December 2025 and September 2025; Apollo 17 three lights above lunar terrain (1972); and unresolved military UAP reports from Middle East, UAE, Greece, Africa, Japan, and North America spanning 2013–2026. All are designated unresolved. The government cannot identify what these objects are.

UAP have been documented projecting beams that cause radiation-pattern burns in humans. US diplomats have sustained permanent neurological injuries consistent with directed microwave energy. The Brazilian Air Force investigated civilians struck by aerial beams in 1977. The symptoms are identical. The technology is the same. The question is who — or what — is operating it.

The Congressional Research Service updated its Directed Energy Weapons primer in January 2026 — version 14. DOD requested $789.7 million for unclassified DE programmes in FY2025. The roadmap targets 500kW by 2030 and megawatt-scale weapons thereafter. At 1 megawatt, lasers can “potentially neutralise ballistic missiles and hypersonic weapons.” UAP routinely perform manoeuvres that exceed hypersonic profiles.

The Vatican Library’s digitisation project, launched in 2010, is digitising its entire manuscript collection of 80,000 codices. By the most recent quarterly report it has processed hundreds of thousands of records and continues to add ~700 new manuscripts per quarter. The project is funded jointly by Vatican resources and international partnerships including Stanford University and the Mellon Foundation.

The Vatican Library’s digitised manuscripts contain centuries of pre-telescopic celestial observations from astronomical treatises, chronicles, court records, and monastic annals. Disc-shaped luminosities, unusual sky phenomena, and celestial portents appear throughout medieval and early modern records. DigiVatLib provides free searchable access. The Vatican Apostolic Archive holds over 600 archival fonds. Beyond the Galileo trial and the WWII-era records, it contains the unbroken diplomatic correspondence of every papacy from the 13th century, 75+ nunciature archives from across the world, the complete records of Vatican I and II, and the private archives of major Catholic noble families. It is one of the world’s pre-eminent institutional memory systems.

The Vatican Apostolic Archive — until 2019 officially called the Vatican Secret Archive — holds 600+ archival fonds spanning over 600 years of papal history. It contains the diplomatic correspondence of every papacy since the 13th century, the full records of Vatican I and II, family archives of Catholic European aristocracy, and documentation from the Galileo trial. Physical access requires prior admission request.

The Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana’s digital platform at digi.vatlib.it provides free, unrestricted access to over 281,000 digitised records including manuscripts, incunabula, visual materials, coins, medals, and archival items. The digitisation project started in 2010 and targets 80,000 codices. 707 new manuscripts were added in the most recent quarterly report alone.

NASA commissioned a UAP Independent Study on June 9, 2022. The study team held a public meeting May 31, 2023 and published its final report September 14, 2023. The commission was not investigating whether UAP were alien craft — it was investigating how to collect scientific data that could eventually answer that question. The distinction matters.

The Vatican holds the world’s largest collection of pre-modern celestial observation records. Its Observatory has operated since 1582. Its astronomers have been publicly discussing extraterrestrial life theology since 1995. Its Archive holds 75+ nunciature records from every part of the globe since the 16th century. Pope Leo XIV is the current pope. Here is why this institution matters to the UAP investigation.

The Vatican Observatory — one of the oldest active astronomical observatories in the world, with roots to 1582 — has produced two significant public statements on extraterrestrial life. Fr. Christopher Corbally’s 1995 Nash Lecture “Would You Baptize an Alien?” and an 8-minute video with Br. Guy Consolmagno and Fr. Corbally contain the quote: “Some theologians don’t make God big enough.” Both are publicly available.

The Vatican Apostolic Library has identified over 550 manuscripts in its collection containing palimpsests — parchment folios where original text was erased and written over. The Vatican Palimpsests project is digitally recovering these erased texts across 13 languages from the 4th century onward. Some of the earliest celestial observation records in Western history may be among them.
