Robert Scott Lazar (born January 1959, Coral Gables, Florida) — self-proclaimed physicist. In 1989 he claimed to have worked at a classified facility called S4 near Area 51, Nevada, reverse-engineering extraterrestrial spacecraft. The claim permanently transformed Area 51 from a whispered rumor into a cultural institution. THE 1989 DISCLOSURE: Appeared anonymously as “Dennis” on KLAS-TV Las Vegas (May 1989) with investigative reporter George Knapp. Later appeared unmasked (November 1989). Claims: S4 was built into the mountainside at Papoose Lake, ~15 miles south of Groom Lake. Nine alien spacecraft in disguised hangars. Lazar’s specific assignment: reverse-engineer the propulsion system of the “Sport Model” — a disc-shaped craft made of a titanium-like metal. His employer: the United States Navy (not the Air Force — highly unusual). Hired through contractor EG&G. THE PROPULSION SYSTEM: Powered by a stable isotope of Element 115 (then unknown). The reactor bombards E115 with protons → E116 → decays releasing antimatter → annihilated against matter = energy. The reactor generates its own gravitational field, allowing the craft to distort space-time — bending space in the direction of travel, “falling toward” the distortion. US government allegedly had multiple kilograms of the stable isotope in storage. ELEMENT 115 VERIFICATION STATUS: In 1989, Element 115 did not exist on the periodic table. In 2003, a Russian-American team at JINR Dubna first synthesized it. Named Moscovium (Mc) and officially added to the periodic table in 2016. HOWEVER: All known isotopes decay in milliseconds to fractions of a second — the opposite of a stable, usable fuel. Lazar’s required stable isotope does not exist in verified science. He maintains stable isotopes exist but are off-planet in origin. CREDIBILITY EVIDENCE: 1982 Los Alamos Monitor article independently confirmed his presence at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility. FBI FOIA files on Lazar confirmed (contents largely classified). FBI raided United Nuclear in 2006. Academic records at MIT and Caltech: none found. Criminal record: 1990 felony pandering plea. Story unchanged in 35+ years. 2026: “S4: The Bob Lazar Story” documentary on Amazon Prime (Luigi Vendittelli) prompted Joe Rogan and Jesse Michels appearances.
