Brazil’s National Archive UAP Collection: How to Access 40 Years of Classified Military Files

Brazil’s Arquivo Nacional holds classified government UAP documents released under the Lei de Acesso a Informacao. The SIAN database at sian.an.gov.br is the access point. The collection includes military UAP investigation files spanning from the 1950s through the 1990s. Access is free with registration.

What the Collection Contains

  • Operacao Prato (Operation Saucer) 1977: Classified Brazilian Air Force investigation into the Colares mass UAP encounters. Physical injuries, civilian testimonies, photographic and film evidence, military field reports.
  • SIOANI files: Records from the Sistema de Investigacao de Fenomenos Aereos Anomalos, the Brazilian Air Force’s ongoing UAP investigation system from the 1960s.
  • Air Ministry correspondence: Internal communications on UAP policy, investigation procedures, and case management.

How to Access

  • SIAN database: sian.an.gov.br — free, registration required
  • Physical archive: Praca da Republica 173, Rio de Janeiro. Tel: +55 21 2179-1227

Brazil’s transparency-law model differs fundamentally from PURSUE. The Access to Information Law created a legal right of access the military could not indefinitely block. Operation Saucer files describe physical injuries to Amazon civilians documented by military investigators who believed what they witnessed was real.
