The Five Eyes intelligence alliance — US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand — is not just sharing UAP intelligence. Its member nations are simultaneously developing high-power directed energy weapons with explicit capability against uninhabited aerial systems. The convergence of the two threads is not coincidental.
Australia: DSC 2084
DSTG’s August 2018 fact sheet explicitly lists “counter uninhabited aerial systems” as a primary HPRF DEW application. Active research in source technologies, pulsed power, and miniaturisation. Testing facilities confirmed operational. Partnership programme actively recruiting industry.
United States: CRS IF11882
The January 2026 Congressional Research Service update to its DEW primer confirms: $789.7 million requested for unclassified DE programmes in FY2025. Power targets: 500 kW by 2025-2030, megawatt-scale thereafter. At 1 MW, lasers can “potentially neutralise ballistic missiles and hypersonic weapons.” AFIT Center for Directed Energy, AFRL Directed Energy directorate, and the High Energy Laser Scaling Initiative (HELSI) all active. DOD managed by Principal Director for Directed Energy within OUSD(R&E).
United Kingdom: Project Dragonfire
The UK Ministry of Defence’s Project Dragonfire is a high-energy laser weapon system developed by a MBDA-led consortium including Leonardo, QinetiQ, Thales, and BAE Systems. In January 2024 Dragonfire completed the UK’s first high-power laser firing trials against aerial targets. The UK explicitly states the system is designed to engage aerial targets at low cost-per-shot compared to missiles. “Counter uninhabited aerial systems” is a primary stated application.
The Five Eyes UAP-DEW Convergence
All Five Eyes nations share UAP intelligence through UKUSA Agreement channels. All Five Eyes nations are simultaneously developing directed energy weapons with anti-aerial capability. The 1977 Australian Defence Intelligence Organisation (ADIO) memorandum — Australia’s equivalent of the US UAP intelligence archive — was recently referenced in connection with Five Eyes intelligence sharing on UAP. The nation that published DSC 2084 on HPRF DEW has been sharing UAP intelligence with the US since the 1947 UKUSA Agreement. These two bodies of work are not separate. They inform each other.
