GARY McKINNON — NASA HACK / “OFF-WORLD OFFICERS” / “NON-TERRESTRIAL MATERIALS” / UK FOUGHT US EXTRADITION

Between 2001 and 2002, Scottish systems administrator Gary McKinnon penetrated 97 US military and NASA computer networks from his home computer in London — the largest military computer hack in US history, according to US prosecutors. McKinnon was not looking for financial data or personal information. He was looking for evidence of UAP cover-up, motivated by his belief that the US government had suppressed free energy technology. What he found, across multiple classified systems, was more significant than he anticipated.

“Non-Terrestrial Officers” and “Non-Terrestrial Materials”: On a US Space Command database, McKinnon found an Excel spreadsheet titled “Non-Terrestrial Officers” — a list of names and ranks not matching any known US military unit or deployment. He found a second file listing “fleet-to-fleet transfers” of materiel between ships — ships not in any published US Navy registry. He described the document as suggesting the US operates a fleet of spacecraft with personnel whose assignments exist outside the known military structure. He was unable to download or copy the files before he lost his connection.

The NASA Building 8 images: McKinnon accessed NASA’s Johnson Space Center Building 8 photo editing laboratory systems and found high-resolution images of what he described as a large, smooth, cigar-shaped craft in space — being retouched to remove it from the final public release images. He saw the image in its pre-retouched and partially-retouched states before he lost connection. He has described it consistently in every interview since: a structured craft, clearly not a natural object, being systematically removed from NASA imagery before public release.

The extradition fight: The US government sought McKinnon’s extradition from the UK for 10 years, seeking to try him on charges that could have resulted in up to 70 years in prison. The UK government repeatedly refused extradition on human rights grounds — including McKinnon’s Asperger’s diagnosis. Home Secretary Theresa May finally blocked extradition in 2012 after a decade-long legal battle. The US never publicly specified what exactly McKinnon had accessed that warranted such an aggressive extradition effort. The ferocity of the pursuit is itself evidence that he found something significant.
