GIMBAL + GOFAST: USS Theodore Roosevelt Videos — “Look at That Thing, Dude!” — “There’s a Whole Fleet of Them”

During 2014-2015, pilots associated with the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group operating off the East Coast recorded the GIMBAL and GOFAST videos during reports of instrument detections of unknown aerial objects. GIMBAL (Jan 2015): Dark oval-shaped object moving against strong winds at high altitude. Object appears to rotate on its axis while maintaining forward movement. Pilot audio: “Look at that thing, dude!” — “What is that?” — “It’s rotating!” — “There’s a whole fleet of them” (multiple objects beyond what’s visible). Object assessed as moving against 120-knot headwinds with no visible propulsion. GOFAST (Jan 2015): Object appears to skim close to water at extreme speed. Pilot audio: “What the f— is that?” / “What is that, man?” / “Look at it fly!” AARO analysis suggests parallax effect from a high-altitude balloon drifting with winds. Pilots reject this explanation. All three videos (FLIR, GIMBAL, GOFAST) were provided to the press by Christopher Mellon (former Deputy Asst Sec of Defense for Intelligence) in December 2017. Pentagon officially released April 27, 2020. Characterized as “unidentified” by DOD.
