Spain’s Expedientes OVNI are not a summary or a press release. They are the actual declassified files — 80 dossiers, 1,900 pages of primary documentation from the Ejército del Aire, Spain’s Air Force. Each file documents a specific incident or series of incidents involving strange phenomena in Spanish airspace where Air Force personnel or equipment were involved in some way.
What “Involves Air Force Personnel or Equipment” Means
The Spanish files are not civilian sighting reports submitted to a government office. They are records of incidents in which the Air Force had a direct stake — a pilot observed a phenomenon, ground radar tracked an unknown contact, or Air Force assets were dispatched in response to a report. This is military documentation of military encounters, declassified and made public.
What Is Redacted
The Ministry of Defence redacted all personal identifying information for witnesses and reporting officers. You cannot identify who filed the report or who was the primary witness. The incident details, location, date, and Air Force assessment are public; the individuals involved are protected.
Time Span and Geography
The expedientes cover incidents across multiple decades of Spanish Air Force operations. Spain’s airspace includes the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and the Strait of Gibraltar — one of the most strategically significant maritime chokepoints in the world. Incidents in the Canary Islands have been among the most notable in the file record, including the 1976 Canary Islands incident which generated multi-witness accounts, Air Force investigation, and media coverage at the time.
