PURSUE — the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters — launched May 8, 2026 at war.gov/ufo. Release 01 contains 161 files from the White House, ODNI, DOE, AARO, NASA, FBI, and additional intelligence agencies. The directive uses the words “alien and extraterrestrial life.” All materials are unresolved cases: the government cannot determine what these objects are.
The PURSUE Release 01 announcement on May 8, 2026 included coordinated statements from the Secretary of War, the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI Director, and the NASA Administrator. On September 14, 2023, NASA published its UAP Independent Study Team Final Report. The report made a series of recommendations for how NASA could contribute to UAP data collection and analysis. NASA’s UAP Independent Study was given a formal Statement of Task containing eight specific questions. None of them ask “what are UAP.” Instead, they ask how to build the data infrastructure to eventually answer that question. Reading the 8 questions carefully reveals exactly what NASA knew — and what it acknowledged it didn’t know — as of 2022.
