From the CIA’s own history of the U-2 program (Pendlow/Welzenbach, 1998), reproduced on the US Naval History and Heritage Command’s official website: “U-2 and later OXCART flights accounted for more than one-half of all UFO reports during the late 1950s and most of the 1960s.” CIA investigators called on Project Blue Book to check reported sightings against U-2 flight logs. This “enable[d] the investigators to eliminate the majority of the UFO reports, although they could not reveal to the letter writers the true cause of the UFO sightings.” This is a documented, official admission that: (1) A massive cover-up of UFO sightings was deliberately run by the CIA and USAF (2) Thousands of citizens who reported sightings were told their observations were “unexplained” when the government knew exactly what they had seen (3) The methodology was deliberate and programmatic — CIA and Air Force cooperating to lie to the public. IMPLICATION: Once U-2/OXCART cases are removed from the Blue Book record, the remaining UNEXPLAINED cases — the 701 permanently unresolved sightings from the official record — represent objects that could NOT be attributed to ANY known platform. SOURCE: Naval History and Heritage Command (history.navy.mil). COMPANION: Project GRUDGE (1949) officially ran “a public affairs campaign designed to persuade the public that UFOs constituted nothing unusual or extraordinary.” Official disinformation. Documented.
