March 13, 1997, 7:30–10:30pm MST — Arizona, Nevada, and Mexico. Approximately 10% of Arizona’s population reported witnessing UAP. Two distinct events: EVENT A (8:00–9:00pm): A silent V-shaped or boomerang-shaped craft estimated at 1–1.5 miles wide traveled from the Nevada state line through Phoenix to the edge of Tucson — a 300-mile corridor. Witnesses described 5-9 lights in V-formation blocking background stars as it passed overhead. No engine noise, no visible propulsion, no heat signature, no wind disturbance. Witnesses include: Arizona Governor Fife Symington (Air Force veteran and pilot), commercial pilot Kurt Russell (who reported it to air traffic control while flying into Phoenix), police officers from multiple cities, medical professionals, and military personnel. Councilwoman Frances Barwood called for investigation — was ridiculed, had a UFO cartoon placed on her office door. The government never interviewed a single witness. Radar data from Luke AFB reportedly confirmed anomalous signatures — then was deleted before independent review. EVENT B (10pm): A row of stationary lights southwest of Phoenix — military confirmed as A-10 Warthog flares from Operation Snowbird at Davis-Monthan AFB. Four-month delay before any explanation was offered. SYMINGTON’S PRESS CONFERENCE (June 1997): Brought out a staff member in an alien costume, joking it was the “guilty party.” Said he regretted this. 10 YEARS LATER on CNN: “In 1997, during my second term as governor of Arizona, I saw something that defied explanation… I’m a pilot and I know just about every machine that flies. It was bigger than anything I’ve ever seen.” Referenced in November 2023 congressional hearings as a documented pre-2000 UAP case requiring review.
