Project Blue Book Official Record: 12,618 Sightings Total. 701 Remain “Unidentified” After Full Investigation. 94 Rolls of Microfilm at NARA. National Security Cases Were Excluded From Blue Book Entirely.

The complete Project Blue Book record — the US Air Force’s official UFO investigation from 1947 to 1969 — is held at the National Archives at College Park (NARA II) on 94 rolls of 35mm microfilm (T-1206). Total sightings investigated: 12,618. Of these, 701 remain classified as “Unidentified” after full investigation. Headquarters: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The records include 37 cubic feet of case files arranged chronologically (approximately 74,000 pages), 2 cubic feet of administrative files, and 3 cubic feet of OSI records. Wright-Patterson’s own public affairs office issued an official fact sheet stating: “There are not now nor ever have been, any extraterrestrial visitors or equipment on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.” The NARA page for the project confirms that the Roswell Incident is NOT documented in Blue Book records. CRITICAL CONTEXT: As confirmed by the NSA’s declassified CIA Stonewalling document and JANAP-146, UAP reports that could affect national security were specifically EXCLUDED from Project Blue Book, were filed separately, and carried criminal penalties for disclosure. The 701 “Unidentified” are only what was allowed to be investigated. The cases considered national security threats were never part of Blue Book.
