Skinwalker Ranch: The Bigelow-NIDS Investigation and What It Found

Skinwalker Ranch in Utah’s Uinta Basin is 512 acres of some of the most intensively investigated UAP-adjacent terrain on Earth. Robert Bigelow purchased it in 1996, deployed the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), and spent years documenting phenomena that would later inform the government’s own AAWSAP research program. The Skinwalker-government connection is not speculation — it is documented in congressional records.

The NIDS Investigation (1996-2004)

NIDS was Bigelow’s scientific research organization — staffed with PhD-level scientists, former intelligence officers, and law enforcement personnel. Over three years on Skinwalker Ranch they documented: cattle mutilations with no conventional explanation, apparent telekinetic effects on equipment, multiple structured craft sightings, orb phenomena that interacted with investigators, and what appeared to be wormhole-like portals. All observations were documented scientifically. The findings were so strange that NIDS investigators themselves struggled to frame coherent hypotheses.

The AAWSAP Connection

When Senator Harry Reid authorized the $22M AAWSAP program in 2007, the DIA contract went to Bigelow Aerospace — the company Bigelow had built on UAP research foundations. One of AAWSAP’s research areas was Skinwalker Ranch. DIA personnel visited the property. The ranch’s phenomena were studied as potential indicators of advanced non-human technology. The connection between a private Utah cattle ranch and the Pentagon’s classified UAP program is one of the most extraordinary institutional facts in disclosure history.

Current Status

Bigelow sold Skinwalker Ranch in 2016 to real estate developer Brandon Fugal. The property is now the subject of the History Channel series “The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch.” Scientific investigation continues. The official site is at skinwalker-ranch.com.
