The Calvine Photograph (1990): Diamond-Shaped Craft Over Scotland, Harrier Jet Made Multiple Passes “As If Homing In,” Six Photos Taken — Original Negatives Disappeared Into MOD. A Defence Intelligence Officer Stated Witnesses Had Photographed a Classified US Black Project Platform “That to This Day Remains Top Secret.” Original Photo Finally Published 2022.

August 1990, Calvine, Scotland (above Pitlochry): Two walkers observed a large diamond-shaped object hovering for approximately 10 minutes with a low humming sound. During the sighting, an RAF Harrier jet made several low-level passes — documented by Nick Pope as behavior consistent with a pilot who had spotted the object and was homing in for a closer look. Six photographs were taken. The witnesses passed their prints and original negatives to the Daily Record newspaper, which later passed them to the Ministry of Defence. The original negatives and prints subsequently disappeared inside the MOD. The story was never published by the Daily Record. DI55 and an RAF photo analyst agency both investigated the case. The investigation file was eventually released to the National Archives (DEFE 31/180/1). KEY CLAIM: A Defence Intelligence Officer stated that the witnesses had photographed a classified US black project platform — and that this platform “to this day remains Top Secret.” Nick Pope (who saw the original photos during his MOD desk tour 1991-1994) called it “one of the most intriguing in the Ministry of Defence’s files.” Pope has since speculated on links to the alleged Aurora hypersonic project. Nick Pope deliberately reconstructed the image from memory for a TV documentary — this reconstruction was later mistakenly republished by HuffPost and others as a genuine photograph. Original image finally published August 13, 2022 in the Daily Mail after Dr. David Clarke’s 2018 investigation. The witness allegedly identified in 2024 denied any knowledge of the UFO — leaving the case open. The US black project claim — from a Defence Intelligence Officer — has never been retracted.
