Woomera Nuclear Test Site UAP — 3,600 MPH Object, “Suggestive of Extraterrestrial Origin” — Australian Military Lost All Its UFO Files After FOI Request

Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) — 270,000 sq km in the South Australian desert — was Australia’s most classified nuclear and weapons research zone. 1959-1963: 40+ top-secret nuclear weapons tests code-named Vixen conducted there. It was also the site of Australia’s most significant UAP incidents. KEY INCIDENT — 1954: RAAF radar operators and trained personnel tracked a circular object hovering above the path of a Canberra bomber during a test flight. The object then accelerated to approximately 3,600 miles per hour before climbing rapidly into the upper atmosphere and disappearing. Nuclear defence physicist Harry Turner reviewed the RAAF intelligence reports and formally concluded that the reports “supported the view that certain unidentified craft had been observed behaving in ways suggestive of extraterrestrial origin.” An official Australian government scientist used the phrase “suggestive of extraterrestrial origin” in an intelligence review. KEY DOCUMENT (NAA): July 24, 1960 confidential report by security officer JJA Hanlon. Sightings July 15, 1960 at Wewak — a nuclear test range 24km from Maralinga Village. Constable Scarborough reported “a balloon had burnt in the air.” Balloon inspection showed all intact. Constable described seeing a light “of approximately the power of bright moonlight, playing on the ground.” RAAF SCALE: 400+ UFO reports 1950-1959, 1,300+ between 1960-1980. 10,000+ files in 130+ folders in NAA collection. UFO research group “Scientific Technical and Astronomical Research Society” established at Woomera in 1966 specifically to collect UAP reports from the rocket range. THE MISSING FILES SCANDAL (2011): Australian Department of Defense lost virtually all UFO files after a FOI request. Two-month search found only ONE surviving file: “Report on UFOs/Strange Occurrences and Phenomena in Woomera.” All other files “deemed lost.” Direct parallel: US Air Force Roswell files also “lost” per GAO investigation. CROSS-REFERENCE: UAP clustering at Woomera exactly mirrors the SCU nuclear-UAP pattern: Malmstrom, White Sands, Kirtland, Nagasaki/Hiroshima. The most classified nuclear weapons test site in the Southern Hemisphere, with a dedicated UFO research group, a 3,600 mph radar track, an official “extraterrestrial origin” assessment, and then all the files go missing.
