AARO Historical Record Report Vol. 1 (Feb 2024): Pentagon Says No Evidence — But Here’s What It Actually Found

In February 2024, AARO released its Historical Record Report Volume I — a 50+ page classified review of all US government UAP investigatory programs since 1945. The headline was “no evidence.” The actual contents tell a different story. Here is what the report documents.

What AARO Actually Reviewed

The report covers Section IV: “Accounts of USG UAP Investigatory Programs Since 1945” — starting with Project SAUCER (1946/1947–January 1949), running through every major program: Sign, Grudge, Blue Book, Robertson Panel, CUFOS, AAWSAP, AATIP, and UAPTF. The scope is comprehensive. The report documents that the USG has been continuously investigating UAP for nearly 80 years.

The “No Evidence” Finding — What It Actually Means

AARO stated it found “no verifiable evidence” that the US government has collected or possessed extraterrestrial technology, and no evidence that programs related to the recovery of such technology were hidden from Congress. Critics including David Grusch immediately noted that AARO’s own access was limited — Grusch had testified under oath that programs existed in Special Access Programs that AARO was specifically denied access to. The IC IG had already designated his complaint “urgent and credible” before AARO published this report.

The AAWSAP / AATIP Section

The report confirms AAWSAP (Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program) and AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program) — both run under Senator Harry Reid’s authorization with funding channeled through Bigelow Aerospace. The report documents that Lue Elizondo oversaw AATIP from within the Pentagon. It confirms the program investigated “potential physics and engineering implications” of UAP — including UAP performance characteristics that exceeded known human capabilities.

Program Timeline Confirmed in the Report

  • 1946/1947 — Project SAUCER (predecessor to Sign)
  • 1948 — Project Sign. Estimate of the Situation classified TOP SECRET, concluded UAP were interplanetary. Vandenberg ordered it destroyed.
  • 1949 — Project Grudge. Debunking mandate issued.
  • 1952 — Project Blue Book. Washington DC mass sightings July 1952. Robertson Panel 1953.
  • 1969 — Condon Report. Blue Book terminated.
  • 2007 — AAWSAP established. $22M appropriation. DIA contract with Bigelow Aerospace.
  • 2012 — AAWSAP ends. AATIP continues informally under Elizondo.
  • 2017 — NYT AATIP exposé. Nimitz footage released.
  • 2021 — UAPTF → AARO established.
