AFU Sweden: The World’s Largest Private UFO Archive and Why It Holds the Russian Files

The Archives for the Unexplained — AFU — is located in Norrköping, Sweden. It is the world’s largest private repository for UFO and UAP-related records, holding physical archives, book libraries, recordings, digitised files, objects, and materials related to unexplained phenomena from around the world. Crucially, it holds European and Russian case files that exist nowhere on any government server.

Why AFU Holds the Russian Files

Russia has no public UAP portal. Soviet-era files are physically held in Moscow or were extracted through informal channels — journalists, defectors, military contacts who wanted the information to reach the outside world. Sweden’s geographic and political position during the Cold War made it a natural repository for European and Eastern Bloc records that couldn’t travel to the US without intelligence entanglement. AFU was established as a specifically independent archive — no government affiliation, no intelligence agency relationship — making it the only repository some Russian sources trusted with their materials.

February 2026: The Man With More UAP Evidence Than Anyone Alive

On February 22, 2026, AFU published “The Man Sitting on More UFO Evidence Than Anyone Alive” — a documentary-style profile of an individual claiming to possess one of the most extensive private UAP evidence collections in existence. The article describes decades of documentation held outside any government or institutional framework, spanning case files, physical evidence, and primary source materials collected over a career length of investigation. AFU’s publication of this profile signals that the collection’s credibility was sufficient for the world’s leading private UAP archive to formally document it.

Clas Svahn: Sweden’s People’s Educator of the Year 2024

AFU’s director Clas Svahn was named People’s Educator of the Year 2024 in Sweden — the country’s highest honour for contributions to public education and knowledge dissemination. The award was given specifically in connection with his UAP archival and research work. Sweden is recognising UAP investigation as a legitimate contribution to public knowledge at a national awards level. This is structurally significant: not a fringe recognition, but a mainstream national educational honour for the man who runs the world’s largest UFO archive.

Recent Acquisitions and Profile

In November 2025, AFU received the library of Ebbe Schön (1929–2022), one of Sweden’s most prolific folklore and ethnology authors, who published nearly 50 books between 1973 and 2022. The donation adds a significant body of folklore research to AFU’s holdings. In 2025 the YouTube channel “Yes Theory” filmed at AFU, reaching a mainstream international audience. A French YouTube channel with more than 4 million subscribers produced a 16-minute documentary from AFU in summer 2025. A Swedish university has begun offering a UAP course with AFU as a core reference. The archive is expanding its international profile at an accelerating rate as mainstream cultural interest in UAP reaches a new high.
