Dr. Garry Nolan is the Rachford and Carlota A. Harris Professor in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine — one of the most decorated biomedical scientists in the United States with 40+ patents and 300+ peer-reviewed publications. Since 2012, Nolan has applied the same rigorous scientific methodology that made him a world leader in single-cell genomics and mass cytometry to two specific UAP-adjacent research questions: the biological effects of UAP encounters on human witnesses, and the composition of materials claimed to be associated with UAPs.
Brain imaging of UAP witnesses: Nolan has examined the brains of numerous individuals — including intelligence community personnel — who reported UAP encounters or extended contact with UAP-associated materials. Using advanced mass cytometry and brain imaging, Nolan identified consistent, measurable structural differences in the brains of these individuals — specifically in the connections between the caudate and putamen, regions associated with pattern recognition. Some individuals showed damage consistent with exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Others showed enhanced connectivity. The pattern was statistically distinct from control populations. Nolan has stated these findings indicate a real physical interaction between the witnesses and an external energy source.
Isotope analysis of claimed UAP materials: Nolan has worked with individuals who claimed to possess materials associated with UAP, applying ICP mass spectrometry and electron probe microanalysis to examine their isotopic ratios. Some samples showed isotopic ratios inconsistent with naturally occurring terrestrial elements — ratios that would require industrial processes to produce, in configurations not known to exist in standard manufacturing. He has not concluded these materials are of non-human origin, but has stated they are anomalous and warrant serious scientific investigation.
“100% probability” statement: In May 2023, Nolan publicly stated his assessment of ET visitation probability at “100 percent” — not as a political statement but as a scientific judgment based on his years of direct research into both the biological evidence and the material evidence associated with the phenomenon. He has vouched for David Grusch’s credibility and stated that Grusch is not mentally ill and is not lying. As Stanford’s most credentialed biomedical scientist, these assessments carry institutional weight that civilian UAP researchers cannot match.
