June 26-27, 1959, Boianai, Papua New Guinea (then Australian territory): Anglican missionary Reverend William Gill and 37 witnesses — including teachers and medical technicians — observed disc-shaped craft with humanoid figures on top on two consecutive evenings. The craft hovered approximately 200 feet above ground. Humanoids appeared to be working on equipment on the deck. When Gill and witness Ananias waved, all four humanoid figures waved back. A torch was flashed at the craft — it responded by swinging side-to-side in apparent imitation. The craft had four stabilizing legs. An “electric blue spotlight” shot into the air. The RAAF’s investigation: two officers who “talked about stars and planets, then left.” RAAF verdict: Venus and natural phenomena — the humanoid figures were officially ignored. CRITICAL INTELLIGENCE FINDING: Hynek’s investigation confirmed over 60 additional UAP sightings in the Papua New Guinea region during the same period. The Boianai case absorbed all analysis; the 60+ surrounding regional sightings formed an unanalyzed wave. This mirrors the Roswell pattern — one prominent case absorbs attention while the surrounding wave of confirming events is forgotten. McDonald interviewed Gill in 1967 and considered the case among his most significant. Hynek revisited in 1973 and found six original witnesses — all confirmed Gill’s account. Both the most credible scientific UAP researchers of the 1960s-70s independently confirmed this case. The UFOR NSW archive holds McDonald’s original 1967 audio recordings of his Boianai witness interviews — access restricted.
