Pine Gap: CIA’s Most Important Technical Intelligence Station in the World — Three Functions — OPIR Thermal Imaging Detects UAP Heat Signatures — Covers South Korea Site Geography — MH370 May Have Tracking Data — “Flying Saucers” In Official History

NAUTILUS INSTITUTE ASSESSMENT: “Pine Gap’s original and still principal purpose is to serve as the ground control station for geosynchronous signals intelligence (SIGINT) satellites developed by the CIA. It probably remains the CIA’s most important technical intelligence collection station in the world.” THREE OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS: (1) SIGINT: Ground control for CIA geosynchronous SIGINT satellites — intercepts cellphones, satellite communications, missile telemetry globally. Mission 8300 / Advanced Orion constellation covers former Soviet Union, China, South Asia, East Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe. (2) EARLY WARNING: Since 1999 — Relay Ground Station for US missile launch detection satellites (DSP/SBIRS/OPIR). Powerful infrared telescopes on geostationary satellites detect thermal signatures of ballistic missile launches. Now being upgraded with new OPIR capability targeting China. (3) FORNSAT/COMSAT: Since early 2000s — intercepts foreign satellite and communications satellite transmissions. Torus multi-beam antenna (2008) receives signals from up to 35 satellites simultaneously. UAP SIGNIFICANCE: The OPIR thermal infrared detection system that monitors missile launches across the Asia-Pacific CANNOT distinguish between a ballistic missile and a high-energy UAP with thermal signatures. Pine Gap is therefore a passive UAP detection node for the entire Asia-Pacific — any anomalous thermal signature in Korean, Chinese, Japanese, or Pacific airspace gets logged. SOUTH KOREA CONNECTION: The South Korea giant craft (37°24’N 126°55’E, Anyang-si) is squarely within Pine Gap’s satellite coverage zone. Coulthart stated Australia has equal intelligence interest in that site. Pine Gap, operated jointly by CIA/ASD, IS the facility that would have imagery. MH370: In 2014, Australian authorities confirmed Pine Gap or JORN radar might have data on the Malaysia Airlines disappearance. The data has never been released. “FLYING SAUCERS” INDEX ENTRY: The AWM-catalogued “Project Rainfall” (Gilling) contains an index entry for “flying saucers” and a dedicated Chapter 27 titled “A Saucerful of Secrets” — confirming official acknowledgment of UAP content within the classified Pine Gap history.
