NICAP was founded in 1956 and became the most credible civilian UAP research organization of the 20th century. Its director Major Donald Keyhoe pushed for Congressional hearings in the 1960s. The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) at nuforc.org has been collecting civilian sighting reports since 1974.
