Brazil’s Arquivo Nacional — the national archive system — holds digitised military UAP documentation accessible through its SIAN (Sistema de Informações do Arquivo Nacional) database. The holdings include records from multiple Brazilian Air Force (FAB) UAP investigation programmes, the most significant of which is Operation Saucer — classified for decades and now partially public.
Operation Saucer: Brazil’s Amazon UAP Investigation
In 1977 and 1978, the Brazilian Air Force deployed a team of military personnel to the Amazon state of Pará, specifically to the island of Colâres near the coast. The mission — classified at the time — was to investigate mass UAP sightings by the local population. Residents of Colâres reported being struck by beams of light from aerial objects, leaving physical burns and injuries. Some described the light as penetrating the body and producing symptoms consistent with radiation exposure.
The Air Force team, operating under Operation Saucer (Operação Prato), spent months on site. They documented hundreds of UAP sightings, photographed objects, collected witness testimony, and recorded medical cases. The investigation produced thousands of pages of documentation, hundreds of photographs, and hours of film footage. It was classified immediately after completion.
Declassification History
Brazil has conducted several UAP declassification rounds. The Ministry of Defence released batches of Air Force UFO files in 2009, 2010, and 2013 following sustained advocacy by Brazilian UFO researchers including A.J. Gevaerd and the Brazilian UFO Magazine. Files from Operation Saucer, other Air Force investigations (Operations Prato and Bandeirantes), and documentation from the Brazilian Air Force’s formal UAP investigation system were transferred to the Arquivo Nacional and made accessible through SIAN.
Accessing the Files
The SIAN database is accessible at sian.an.gov.br. Registration is available to both Brazilian and foreign researchers. The Arquivo Nacional is located at Praça da República, 173, Rio de Janeiro. Physical visits are possible for researchers requiring original document access. The UFO/OVNI digital collection page at gov.br/arquivonacional provides entry to the digitised holdings.
The Oracle Assessment
Operation Saucer is among the most significant classified government UAP investigations ever conducted. It involved military deployment to an active phenomenon, documented physical injuries consistent with directed energy, and produced a substantial body of evidence that was then suppressed for decades. Its partial declassification through the Arquivo Nacional makes Brazil one of only a handful of countries to have released direct evidence of government investigation into UAP-related physical harm to civilians.
